GEORGE STREET RETAIL QUARTER, DUNEDIN
Project Location: Dunedin Central
Planter Supply: Modscene
Design: Jasmax
Install: Isaac Construction
The George Street Retail Quarter is one of Dunedin’s most ambitious urban upgrades in decades, a $110 million transformation designed to revitalise the heart of the city. Led by Jasmax, the project reimagines four central blocks into a vibrant, pedestrian-first destination that celebrates local culture, supports business, and invites people to linger.
The new streetscape blends wide, accessible footpaths, generous seating, and bespoke Kāi Tahu cultural design elements with layered planting. Rain gardens and green pockets soften the urban environment, creating spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
As part of this vision, Modscene supplied a series of high-quality planters that define key spaces along the street, bringing structure, greenery, and year-round visual appeal. Our durable, NZ-made planters complement the precinct’s materials palette while withstanding the demands of a busy public environment.
This collaboration highlights how thoughtful design, cultural storytelling, and premium urban planting solutions can work together.
